ASA took into account complaints and banned commercials, saying there was insufficient evidence that the images processed accurately reflect results that could create products.
"Excessive processing and digital manipulation have become the rule, but both Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington are naturally beautiful women who do not need to look good touches," said Swinson.
Lancome defended imagine Roberts as an "aspirational picture" of what can make the product and the actress is due to skin and natural beauty of the light used in photo shoot by photographer Mario Testino and digital changeovers are not "directly relevant ".
Maybelline and Lancome both expressed disappointment that the ads were banned press.
