My love affair with chiffon dresses begins in spring and lasts right through autumn. Of course, I prefer avoiding it in winters because it is not fair to hide this exquisite fabric under layers of wool. But I do make exceptions, especially on days when nothing seems to fit right.

The word En français is used for “chiffon” in French. It means a cloth or rag. Only the French can make something as ordinary as a rag sound gorgeous. The material is light as feather, making it a favorite amongst the elite since colonial times.
One of the most amazing factors about chiffon’s is that it can be dyed into any color from baby pink to olive green and even black. This makes the material wearable almost all year round.

Over the years, the fashion industry has give chiffon a new avatar. It has been used in skirts, tops, dresses and even scarves. Pleated chiffon has been amongst the hottest selling items. Labels like Patra dresses have reinvented the classic 50’s style.You can find chiffon in swing dresses and cutout tops. You can dress them up formally with a pair of stilettos and trendy clutch, or dress it down with blazers and boots. Available in silhouettes ranging from A-line to asymmetrical and from rosettes to ruched styles, chiffon is set to stay.
Designers like Valentino take chiffon to the red carpet with their strapless floor length chiffon dress with a high slit. David Koma (designer) on the other hand blends the fabric with wool for Australian pop singer/ song writer/ actress Kylie Minogue.
